Detection of Toxic Heavy Metals

Element-of-Arsenic-with-magnifiying-glass.jpg

Contaminated water and food are the main cause of heavy metal poisoning, a public health crisis primarily for children that is often undetected. These toxins include arsenic, lead, mercury, and cadmium, and there is no safe level of exposure due to their cumulative effect on the body.  We will develop ultrasensitive tests for heavy metals, both in blood and in food and water, enabling mitigation and prevention.
